Top Water Saving Tips:
1.  Use water efficiently around the home
-  Take less than 4 mins in the shower
-  Turn off the water when washing your hair, shaving & cleaning your teet
-  Wait for a full load of dishes before running an economy dishwashing cycle
-  Ensure a full load of clothes each washing machine cycle
-  FOllow efficient irrigation guidelines
2.  Install water-efficient devices & appliances
- Check out www.waterrating.gov.au for a list of water efficient products
3.  Find & Fix Leaks (See Tip#7)

Tip #5

When the nights start to cool down and winter is just around the corner we all start to put a lot of pressure on our trusty hot water systems. If you have a heat exchange hot water system ensure it is topped up to allow for a more efficient and reliable unit that will keep you and your family warm on those cold winter nights.

Tip #4

Blocked drains are sure to cause much disruption to the running of your household, so here are some helpful hints to ensure your drains keep flowing freely:

IN THE KITCHEN: avoid pouring greasy substances down your sink – these substances cause fat to build up on the pipes, decreasing their carrying capacity.

IN THE BATHROOM:  regularly clean your bathroom, sinks & toilets with disinfectant, remove any build up of hair that may get caught in plugholes & avoid flushing sanitary items/other small objects down the toilet as this may cause a blockage.

OUTSIDE: clean out gutters regularly ensuring your safety at all times.

Regular maintenance of your drains is important in avoiding blockages.

Paul's Plumbing Tips

Tip #8

Consider arranging a water audit as an additional method to help track your water usage & identify equipment & methods to reduce your consumption rates.

Did you know:
- a water-efficient washing machine may use only one-third the water of an inefficient model
- a standard dual flush toilet uses a quarter the amount of water of a single-flush toilet
- a standard showerhead may use up to 25L of water/minute compared to as little as 7L /minute when using a water-efficient shower head.

A water audit is a service that Hayes Plumbing QLD offers to assess where households can save water. Once Paul has tested your current level of water usage you will better understand the benefits of using WELS rated water saving devices eg. aerators & flow restrictor valves.  You will receive a full report that details the current level of water usage within your home & the reductions when the recommended equipment has been installed.

If you are a landlord please be aware schemes are in place that allow you to pass all water charges onto your tenants once specific water efficiency criteria have been met. Please go to www.rta.qld.gov.au for more details or ask your property manager to contact Paul to conduct a water audit at the premises.
